Airpods Pro:  High Cost, High QUality

A little more than three weeks have passed since Apple’s latest tech, the Airpods Pro, was released for purchase. The new Airpods come equipped with outside noise-cancelling technology and a 24 hours-of-charging battery life for the charging case. The new pair is assuredly the new fad, but obtaining one comes at a surprising $250. Are they really worth the elevated price?

The short answer is “it depends.” It depends on the financial status of the consumer. If you are a person who does not have to sweat about $250, then these are definitely worth purchasing. If you are a person living paycheck to paycheck, then I suggest waiting until you receive gift cards (like myself) or wait until they come on sale.

Bizarre and Funny, 'The Crying of Lot 49'

3/23/2017

Thomas Pynchon's "The Crying of Lot 49," released in 1966, boasts an absolutely staggering page count of 192. Being a quintessential postmodernist book to the point of parody, it's riddled with certain hallmarks of the genre: offbeat humor, a strange and unclear amount of self-awareness, a play within a play, ridiculous character names and acronyms (both trademarks of Pynchon's; character 'Mucho' Maas, whose name sounds similar to the Spanish words for 'much more', or a poster advertising AC/DC: The Alameda County Death Cult, a joke which, strangely, predates the hard rock band of the same name by about 7 years, leaving one to wonder exactly what the poster was actually supposed to mean), supposedly hyper-intelligent dolphins, and so on.

Review OF Dragon Age: Inquisition

1/24/2017

In the 41st year of the 9th Age, known as the Dragon Age, there was an explosion at the Conclave, meant to be a summit to end the civil war that has been raging across the southern countries of Ferelden and Orlais for four long years. Nobody survived, except for you, and you have a strange glowing green mark on your left hand, and the hole in the sky, which matches your new mark, pulses with your heartbeat.

This is the first thread of story in Bioware’s most recent title, Dragon Age: Inquisition, a low-fantasy RPG released in 2014 after a development period of 3 years beginning in 2011.

REVIEW: Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children

"Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children" is director Tim Burton’s newest colorful foray into the world of cinema. However, striking set-pieces and profound cinematography mask most of this movie’s numerous cracks in its façade.

One notable performance is that of Samuel L. Jackson as the movie’s villain, the hollowgast leader Baron. Portrayed as a humanoid creature with piercing white eyes and needle sharp teeth (while painfully obvious that the actor’s own eyes are masked with contacts), he manages to make a very nuanced antagonist that appears to pop right off the screen, with humor similar to that of Loki of another of the actors’ films, "The Avengers."

In recent years, Justin Bieber has become a household name— especially if you have a teenage girl living with you. He first became a pop sensation back in 2009 and his since grown into one of the most popular artists in the world. Granted, the twenty-two year old hasn’t made the best choices in the past few years, his music has remained the same—catchy beats, meaningful lyrics, and memorable instrumentals.

'Desperation' Will Draw You In

Desperation, a horror novel by Stephen King, is a definite read for any suspense fan. While it is a lengthy read, and cannot be put down for long periods of time (since the plot can get very involving), it is worth the time to give a read, not for the faint of heart.

The novel takes place in the state of Nevada in an appropriately named town, Desperation. The story is set from multiple people's point of view as they travel down Highway 50

the broom of the system

For those who failed to take on David Foster Wallace’s brick-of-a-novel "Infinite Jest"--and many did-- his earlier novel "The Broom of the System" appears more approachable, both in volume and in context. Still, despite its friendly appearance, "The Broom of the System" is not something to undermine. Even if it’s “no 'Infinite Jest' ”, it’s signature DFW in its fractured plot, excessive and philosophical details, and partially developed themes that leave much interpretation up to the reader. It manages to give the audience the satisfaction of a complete novel while leaving much of the plot unfinished.

Pokken Tournament

4/7/2016

By Nick Dostilio

"Pokken Tournament" is a fairly new game released by the Nintendo cooperation. Its official release date was March 18, 2016, for the WiiU. This game is very unlike the usual pokemon games Nintendo releases. Instead of an overworld game where the player would travel a region, catching Pokemon, the game seems to be a mix of Namco’s Tekken franchise, with some aspects of Street Fighter, and displaying Pokemon. The game is shown to be 3D, the “most 3D” game the Pokemon franchise has released yet. The art style of Pokken Tournament is fairly realistic and has a small felt look to it. It is a very colorful, spectacular, and visually pleasing game nonetheless.
