WITH COLTON COLLERAN
Interview by Brody James
The Falconer: To start our interview off I’d like if you tell the readers about yourself and the role you see yourself playing as a part of the Mashpee baseball team.
Colton Colleran: Hey… I’m Colton Colleran, I have been playing baseball ever since I’ve known how to walk. Baseball is my life. I’m now going into my junior year of baseball which will be huge for my college recruiting process. My role for the Mashpee team will most definitely have to be a big one since I have the most varsity experience of anyone. I will have to be a leader and help my teammates to get better each and everyday.

TF: Being an upperclassman and 3rd year varsity athlete for the baseball team this year, how do you think that affects your leadership role over the rest of the team considering you’re still a junior?
CC: I’ll definitely have to be a leader especially since we don’t have a lot of seniors and the seniors we do have don’t have a lot of varsity experience as I have. I will have to be a strong leader if we want to win any games this upcoming season, and I for one sure don’t like to lose.
TF: As a team, what would you say, collectively, is this year's favorite opponent scheduled and why.
CC: My favorite opponent we have this year definitely has to be Sandwich. I have always wanted to play them since I know many of the players and coaches over there. They are always talking trash and think they can beat us since they are in a higher division, but I want to show them who the real best team on Cape is.
TF: With there being only half the amount of seniors that there were compared to last year's roster, how does that change your approach going into this upcoming season?
CC: For this season we will have to take on a more underdog mentality. Most of the league will know that we have lost a lot of seniors and that will make them think that Mashpee is going to be an easy win.
TF: The varsity team has made multiple good playoff runs, including last year. What are your hopes for the playoffs this year and how far do you see the team going?
CC: I'm hoping we can make it back to the state tourney and make a good run into the tourney and who knows maybe we can even become champs. That's definitely the goal and what I will be working all year to accomplish.
TF: When thinking about this year's team and the players on the roster, what would you say are some of the overall strengths or weaknesses that the team has as a whole ?
CC: I would say our main strength is going to have to be hitting and offensively. Our pitching will be our weak point so we are going to need to score a lot of runs in order to win a lot of games like we are expected to.
TF: As one of the team captains of the baseball team this year, what things do the team need to work on at captain's practice this winter to prepare for the upcoming season?
CC: We gotta work on building up a strong team chemistry and being able to work well and play together as a unit. That is one of the most important things in a team sport in my opinion. We definitely need to work on skills too, but if we get really close and start being able to work together then we will be able to achieve our goals.
TF: To end things, would you consider yourself optimistic for your upcoming junior year of baseball, and how important do you view this baseball season for the future of your baseball career and college?
CC: I am definitely excited and determined to achieve our goals for the upcoming season. This season will be extra important for me to do well because I need to have a good season for the colleges that will be closely watching me throughout the season. I can’t wait for baseball season.
