The clinic was held on campus on the Nordin Turf Field.
Some of Mashpee Middle High School’s Field Hockey Teams, both junior varsity and varsity, attended the clinic. Two players that attended the clinic were freshmen Kylie Harrington and Courtney Story.
Field Hockey clinics can be helpful because players learn new skills as well as improve skills they already know.
Courtney said that the skills that they learn can help the team prepare new learning methods that will help lead them farther into tournament.
It was helpful because of different teaching styles from people at a college level that helps them a lot, Kylie said.
The team hasn’t yet reached out to any other clinic but they have been going to Wheaton Field Hockey clinics for the past few years. “The team has signed up for winter leagues to stay active and together,” Courtney said. Her personal favorite is Wheaton because of the great, new learning experiences and ideas that she can use on the Mashpee fields.
Advice that they would give to someone apprehensive or anxious about getting involved would be “Don’t be afraid to get involved. Clinics are there to help you become more interested in the sport and to learn how to play… you will have caring teammates by your side to support you.”
Some things they have learned from clinics is that even though a player might be bad at the start, there will be improvement in the end if she keeps working for it. Things Courtney has learned about technicalities are that “there are many different stick tricks you can use during the game that can only be used during certain parts of the game.”
Courtney thought that the Wheaton clinic on Sunday brought a lot of people’s knowledge and experiences who have played at a college level to people who are interested in playing at a college level in the future. They agreed that the clinics are there to help them get ready for the season.
