With the regular season coming to a close, the Lady Falcons are looking to make a playoff run in the coming weeks. The Falcons are now standing at 12-6 and are in 3rd place in the South Shore League. The Falcons have one more remaining game before the playoff brackets come out Friday.
The team had a decently hard schedule facing Cohasset, Norwell, Bourne, Rockland, and Falmouth Academy. The Falcons beat Rockland and Bourne who are in a higher division and will go far in their playoffs. Even though beating the teams helped their record they won't be facing them in the playoffs, the Falcons will be versing Cohasset, Falmouth Academy, or Cohasset. These teams are elite in the Falcon’s division, and the Falcons dropped all of the games against these teams by 10+. The Falcons still 12-6 and no matter what will be a force to worry about. The team no matter what will keep their confidence, but know eventually they are going to have to verse one of those teams, as defender Erin Mackie states, “Pretty far but some teams are just challenging like Norwell and Coho.”
The Falcons are a senior led team. Captains Tara Palermo, Chyla Hendricks, and Brooke Bridges impact the game enormously for the team. Tara, a midfielder, is the most versatile scorer for the team; she has 300 career goals for Mashpee, and is the leading scorer in Mashpee. Tara is going to Framingham State and plans to play lacrosse. Chyla, a midfielder, brings a mixture of great offense, she is the second go to scorer on the team, the team has a lot of confidence behind her. Brooke is a solid defender with great defense, good IQ of the game, and crisp passing.
When asked about the strengths of the team many players, freshman defender Brooke Johnston answered, "Working as a whole.” It is clear that the Falcons enjoy playing with themselves, they are all friend. Another strength is the Falcons scoring, the Falcons are lethal with all of the scorers on the team. With the combination of scoring and teamwork, the Lady Falcons should make a huge run in the playoffs.
Now the biggest weakness for the Falcons according to the defender Bridget O'Neill is “Our biggest weakness is probably not always playing with full energy and to our full potential.” This is huge for any team, effort is key. If the Falcons want the run they want in the playoffs they better start playing 110%.
The team will finished the season on May 29 against the tough Falmouth Academy Mariners. Stay tuned for the playoff Bracket coming out this Friday.
