The team is looking “so fierce” this year, according to senior captain Kelly Bohnenberger. In a recent interview, Ms. Bohnenberger stated, “We have lots of middle schoolers this year, which is great. This is important to allow the program to grow. Last year we did not have a lot.” This is Kelly’s fourth season playing for the varsity lacrosse team, and she has been a key member of the team’s defense.
In preparations for the season, the team took a trip to Stonehill College for a miniature training camp with the Stonehill coach and team. Rachel Bridges, another senior captain and starting defender, stated that the training camp was organized through Sara MacRae (senior captain and starting midfielder) because her cousin is one of the coaches at Stonehill. “Sara’s cousin is a really good coach and player. She has taught me a lot of new things in the matter of two practices than I have ever learned in my three years of playing. It was a really great to be able to have that opportunity,” she said.
In previous years the team has made state tournament or have been very close to it. Last year they came up short by one game from competing in the tournament.
“Our plan is to make tournament. That is our long term goal, and we will strive every practice and every game to achieve. Hard work, determination, and teamwork will allow us to reach this goal,” Ms. Bohnenberger stated.
The lacrosse program has been growing in numbers of players and strength every year, and this may be their best season yet.
