Positivity and practice. That’s what Coach Clark says are the most important things for the Mashpee High School boys varsity basketball team this year.
In an interview last week, Coach Clark emphasized the importance of both keeping confidence through ups and downs, as well as working on their mental and physical condition in order to be the best team they can be and achieve the goal of qualifying and winning the South Shore League Tournament.
Coach Clark explained the importance of confidence, “Well yeah, sometimes there’s some lack of confidence. It's important to have it because when kids don’t have it, they second guess every move the make. And that doesn’t just affect the player, it affects the team and that is hard to get past.”

Now that winter break is over, and with five wins and four losses so far, it is time for the team to make the shift into the main part of the season.
The team won its most recent game, on Thursday evening against Cape Cod Technical High School, by a score of 70 to 32.
The next game is at Norwell tonight, followed by a home game on Thursday, January 16, against St. John Paul II.
In recent interviews, Coach Clark said good things about the team and their strength. He is happy with how far they’ve come from the preseason. The team needs to be scrappy and smart in part because of their small size. But with more experience, they are constantly improving and learning how to fight strong even with the size disadvantage.
One of Coach Clark's biggest goals for the season is to qualify for the South Shore League Tournament, and, hopefully, go on to win it all. “It's a hard goal, and the team will need practice, but I believe we can do it,” Coach Clark said.
With the season of 2019-2020, the high expectations extend beyond the court and into the classroom. Every year at sports night, the teams of the season somewhat compete for the highest GPA out of the other teams.
This year Coach Clark and several players hope to get higher up on the podium and also reach honor roll amongst the players. Reaching honor roll shows the teams more than physically talented, and good grades are a necessity in sports.
With several more games on the horizon, and even more practices, Mashpee Boys Varsity Basketball has a good season still ahead of them.
