The 89th Academy Awards was enjoyable and entertaining (as always) but this year’s wasn’t as cool or as exciting as usual. For example, most of the jokes weren't that funny and the set design wasn’t as cool or as interesting as usual. But the movies to nominate were good choices in my opinion. Here are my thoughts on the award winners:
Best Director: I’m fine with having Damien Chazelle winning the award, however I believe that Mel Gibson should’ve won the oscar instead.
Best Actor: He is a great actor, however Manchester By the Sea wasn’t his best role, any of the other nominees in my opinion should’ve won instead.

Best Actress: Even though I haven’t seen Loving, I liked all the other actresses’ roles so I’m perfectly fine with having Emma Stone winning the Oscar.
Best Picture: I completely agree with Moonlight winning the award, however all the almost all the movies on the list were great movies so I would’ve been fine having any of them win.
Best Original Screenplay: I though Manchester by the Sea wasn’t as good as everyone said it was, but I thought Hell or High Water should’ve won the award instead.
Best Adapted Screenplay: I definitely agree with this choice, Moonlight was the best film out of all the other movies shown on the list.
Best Supporting Actor: I agree with the choice, Mahershala Ali did an incredible job as Juan in Moonlight.
Best Makeup and Hair Styling: I honestly don’t understand how this movie won the award. The makeup was awful looking. Star Trek should’ve won the Oscar.
Best Costume Design: Don’t have much of an opinion on this one seeing as that I never watched Fantastic Beasts or Jackie, however just from watching this movie and from looking at the costume designs from the other nominations, I think the winner should’ve been Florence Foster Jenkins.
Best Documentary: I’ve only seen one documentary in 2016, Tickled, and I’m surprised that it wasn’t nominated from the reception the movie got, so I have no opinion on the nominations.
Best Sound Editing: I completely agree with the choice, Arrival was generally perfect in the audio department.
Best Sound Mixing: I feel like La La Land should’ve won the Oscar, however I’m completely fine with having Hacksaw Ridge winning the award.
Best Supporting Actress: I haven’t seen Fences, so I have no opinion of this choice.
Best Foreign Language Film: I usually adore foreign films, but ironically I haven’t seen any of these films or any 2016 foreign films at all.
Best Animated Short: I loved all the shorts this year (haven’t seen Blind Vaysha though) however, I think Borrowed Time or Pear Cider and Cigarettes should’ve won.
Best Animated Feature: I wasn’t a fan of the animation industry’s films in 2016, it’s not that I thought that most of them were bad, but were just kind of lame. Plus, I haven’t seen My Life as Zucchini or The Red Turtle. And I agree with Zootopia being the winner of the Oscar since I thought it was the least moderate out of the other nominations.
Best Production Design: I’m happy with La La Land winning the award, but I would’ve prefered Hail, Caesar!
Best Visual Effects: I would’ve been happy with any of the nominations winning but I would’ve prefered Kubo and the Two Strings to win instead of The Jungle Book.
Best Film Editing: Arrival had better editing in my opinion, but I’m ok with having Hacksaw Ridge win instead.
Best Documentary Short: Like I said before I’ve only seen one documentary in 2016, so I don’t have an opinion.
Best Live Action Short: I only saw Timecode so I have no opinion on this either.
Best Cinematography: I once again have no problem with La La Land winning the award but it’s a 50-50 with this and Lion for me.
Best Score: I definitely agree, La La Land had the best score out of all the other movies nominated.
Best Song: Out of all the nominations, my favorite song was “The Empty Chair” by J. Ralph and Sting, however I’m ok with having the winner be“City of Stars” by Justin Hurwitz, Justin Paul, and Benj Pasekalso. Also why did La La Land get two spots anyway? Isn’t that technically rigging the nominations in La La Land’s favor?
Also, I really don’t care about the whole “Oscar Mix-Up” at all. The only thing that I really thought about it was that whoever mixed up the envelopes should really get fired.
