The last thing many students here at Mashpee Middle-High School would be that their principal would leave less than half way through the year. This was a major shock to many students. It was even sad for some.
With Mr. Balestracci's departure, students and families were made aware that the district intended on hiring a permanent replacement for the 2022-2023 school year. To replace him for the remainder of the year, Mr. Tarsky came on board on February 1 as interim principal.
But because Mr. Tarsky was hired only for the rest of this year, the school still needs to find a full replacement. How will that process go? Who will be the next full principal at MMHS?
According to information from Mrs. DeBoer, this process is going to take place throughout the months of February and March of 2022.

According to information from Mrs. DeBoer, this process is going to take place throughout the months of February and March of 2022.
The initial interview process will be conducted by a committee with a variety of representatives. The committee membership is:

MHS Student
Final decisions regarding those on the committee will be made soon. Mrs. DeBoer will not be taking part in this committee. She will conduct the final interviews of applicants that have previously been interviewed by members of the committee.
Beginning on March 4, 2022, the applications will be reviewed and the first round of interviews will begin. This will take place from March 7, 2022 to March 11, 2022. After that, the top two candidates will be invited for a second interview with Mrs. DeBoer. Reference checks and site visits (if necessary) will be conducted by March 18, 2022 and then the final interviews will take place. By the end of March, the candidate will be offered the position. The new principal will start on July 1, 2022.
Prior to the application being posted, both Dr. Hansom and Mrs. DeBoer took the responses from the “Portrait of a Mashpee Middle-High School Principal” into mind. They have come up with an idea of what qualities they will be looking for in this hiring process based on the information received from the responses made by students, staff and families.
The administration found that it was very important to the opinions of students and staff regarding what they think will best suit the school. In doing this survey, they allowed students and staff to voice their opinions and identify qualities that they think will benefit the school in the future.
Over a hundred students responded to the survey. With these responses, they will be used to identify certain qualities that are desired by students.
The goal for this process, as said by Mrs. DeBoer was “Figuring out what's the most important in the end” in terms of qualities and attributes.
The process over the next few months will show how the priorities and opinions of the school play out, and the committee and administration will work to hire the best candidate for the job.
