The Audio Visual Club, also known as the AV Club is a new after school club that has recently been brought back to Mashpee by Mr. Chiuppi. The club meets weekly to work on a variety of different projects involving videos and podcasts.
“The AV Club was brought up by myself, but really it was originally something that happened at Mashpee in the years prior,” Mr. Chiuppi, known as Mr. QP, added. When this club was first created a few years back, it allowed students to do newsreels, video clips, and other projects that allowed students to have access to the kind of technology and opportunities that involve that club. Unfortunately as technology upgraded, the originally equipment was out of date.
So when, Mr. QP brought the club back up, soon after, it was decided that a new studio could be built up in the library. Mr. Looney helped by allowing the club to have more new up to date equipment. From that, the present AV club is back here now.

The AV club isn’t secluded to any certain group. It is free for everyone. “It doesn’t matter, girls or boys, we have both now. We have a very nice mix of kids,” Mr. QP explained. The AV Club allows kids to become skilled and more involved with this technology field. As the years go on the kids should be very well experienced with audio and visual technologies.
“The purpose of the AV Club is to expose students to filming, editing, lighting, audio engineering, and other import things that will be helpful in life,” Mr. QP stated. This club will teach kids who are interested in audio and visual to understand how the technology used can help them in what they want to follow.
But the AV club isn’t just there for kids who want to do audio and visual. It's far more than that. This club can help give kids skills that are really helpful in life. The technology they use can teach them about how other audio-visual equipment works. There are plenty of goals that follow along in this club. Each week they have certain stories to cover or certain projects to work on. Each goal is worked on as both single and group projects. These projects can branch off to different goals. The student as able to find the stories and bring light to them. But not only that, the projects that the students cover can range from sports, to other extra-curricular activities.
Among the projects that students worked on this year was a video about former MMHS math teacher Mr. Perkins. Mr. QP said that time is the biggest limitation because editing video takes so much of it.
The AV Club meets every Thursday from two to three in the AV room, located in the library. Mr“Anybody is welcome, even if you didn’t start off in the club you can certainly come and see what's it all about,” Mr. QP said. Even on your first meeting you will be able to use some equipment, meet some people, and learn what you want about the club.
The club has a variety of equipment. “We have several Sony HD cameras, two high-powered HP computers for editing, using a video editing program known as adobe premiere pro, we have mixing boards, several computers, some audio out speakers, lighting equipment, and plenty other technology,” Mr. QP said. In the AV Room, they have a good mix of projects, programs, equipment, and students there.
The club hopes that their name gets out there. The hope to have more people, and they are open to anyone who is interested. They also hope that it will gain more attraction and become a bigger and more involved club as time goes on.
“I want you to know that this is complex, and this is only the starting point of it,” Mr. QP added.
