How do you spend your time outside of school?
With friends or family, going to the beach or finding adventures. We’ll go find somewhere to hike or drive around other towns.
What's your favorite place to drive?
Just in general the beach, there’s a private beach in Falmouth that I love going to on the same road as Old Silver.
When you were in my position as a senior in high school, where did you expect yourself to be at the age you are now?
Actually teaching - but in a pre-school. But I’ve wanted to be a teacher since I was 5 so that’s always been the plan.
Are you happy working at the high school?
Most of the time I still have my moments when I miss the pre-school and get frustrated with some of the kids here because you expect more out of them but it’s been a nice change.
Can you tell me about how it was working at the pre-school?
With the little kids they had an excitement about learning new things and it made it worth it and in a way kids here act like they know it all, they act like things aren’t exciting anymore. When they’re little it’s all so new to them plus you can do fun topics like Dr. Suess and play dough. Little kids show a lot more respect even though they show it differently, when you don’t see the respect in the older kids as often these days.
What do you like about your career now? Do you think at some point you might end up back at the Pre-school?
I think at some point I’ll end up back at the pre-school. This has helped me learn about how you can alter things to make things easier for them, but I’ve always thought I’ll end up at the pre-school rather than the high school. I love the kids that I work with, and I love having a mentor who walks me through the right and wrong things, and I feel like there’s a lot of good support here where at Stepping Stones Too there wasn’t as much support. I had a really tough class over there and I had a class by myself, and the directors and teachers weren’t helping me as much and it was breaking me down more and I wasn’t really enjoying my job anymore.
What’s your exact position?
I'm a Para-professional for 7th and 8th grade with the same 9 kids through the day. So I’ve gotten to know my kids and learn about their moods and what sets them off through the year
