Early Friday morning, May 26, the results of class elections were announced to the school. Annual class elections were held on May 24th and 25th on Google classroom. Class elections were competitive this year while each grade besides the Class of 2018 had multiple candidates for president and other positions.
The Class of 2018 elected Frederick Hanna as president, after he has been president since his eighth grade year and is now elected for his senior year. After being successful in raising money throughout the years Freddy has a more student-based goal for his class.
“My goal next year is to get more participation from the students so that more people in my grade have a voice that is heard.” He goes on to say, “I hope more kids give their input for what would make next year one to remember.” The senior class has been one of the more successful classes at Mashpee High School based on the amount of money they have raised through fundraisers. This year Freddy ran unopposed along with the rest of the junior officers.
Cassie Baker will be the president of the Class of 2019 next year. The elections for the Class of 2019 were full of change while the class treasurer was the only officer who remained in the same position. Cassie had been the class's vice president this year and after being persuaded by peers, decided to run for president. The presidential position had multiple candidates while the other positions ran unopposed.
“My top goal for next year is to get our entire grade involved in student council activities,” Cassie said. Cassie has two goals for the following year, including making everyone more involved and raising money for her class. Overall, Cassie hopes she will be able to work hard this year to ensure a fun senior year.
The Class of 2020 elected Zoe Farren as their new president. The elections for the Class of 2020 also only had multiple candidates for the president position, while other positions ran unopposed. Zoe has not previously been directly involved in student council but feels with hard work she will be able to achieve many things and help her class. Zoe decided to run because she feels her class needs to raise some more money so they could start accumulating money for their senior year. When asked what her goal was for the next year Zoe replied, “To fund raise a lot and raise the Class of 2020 money.”
Jack Vinitsky was elected to be the president for the Class of 2021. The upcoming freshmen class had multiple candidates for every position. This will be Jack’s first year as president for the Class of 2021. When asked his goal for the upcoming year Jack responded, “I would love to raise money for my class. Thank you and God bless Mashpee.” Jack among the other freshmen officers will start their work in the upcoming fall.
Overall the presidential candidates all have similar goals for next year. Each grade hopes to expand involvement among students, while raising money. The class presidents will begin their work as presidents in the fall, working towards their goals.
