Time flies and that becomes extremely evident when you reach a milestone you thought would take forever.
Kiana Lopes feels as though just yesterday she was at her first day of kindergarten with the class of 2016 on the playground. Now she is a senior in high school with two weeks left until she graduates and is done with public school forever. Kiana has made a valuable contribution to Mashpee as a whole and to the class of 2016 specifically.

She has participated in many of the rigorous classes that Mashpee offers. Her schedule this year consisted of AP classes such as calculus, Spanish, statistics, literature, and physics 2. She has somehow managed to take all of these AP classes, attend class meetings, work as secretary of the student council, vice president of the Human Rights Club and was an active member in the National Honors Society. Talk about busy! Senior year is the busiest year of high school because you have to do so much for college applications that it usually consumes all of your time but this wasn’t the case in Kiana’s life.
This hard work and dedication paid off recently at Scholarship Night where Kiana received several scholarships that were based on her amazing character and love for others and also her grades. She was the perfect candidate for all that she won because she is a well rounded girl! Her scholarships came from, The Southport Residents, The John L. Costa Memorial, Men’s Club of New Seabury, and The Mashpee Women’s Club. In the Fall, Kiana will be attending UMass Boston with a few of her friends with many of her friends close by. She got in with almost a free ride her first year and plans to study management with a minor in communications. Kiana is on the road to success because she has been so successful in high school. If you didn’t get to know this outgoing, fun, well-rounded student of MHS, you missed out, but I am sure that one day she will be known by many people in the world.
