On February 12, twenty four members were formally inducted into the Ted O’Rourke Chapter of Mu Alpha Theta, the senior project of Mashpee’s own Meghan Howard. She was approached by Mrs. Brodie with the idea last year, and the past year has been dedicated to organizing a way to set it up properly.
The club serves the purpose of a math honor society, something the school had previously lacked. They also offer “low-stress” group tutoring (referred to as a workshop) to students who seek it every Thursday after school. It primarily consists of juniors.

Meghan says that the goal is to create connections from tutors to students who are struggling. This can lead to a better experience for not only the student but the tutor too. Tutors are available year-round for those who need it, allowing connections to be made between tutor and student.
For those who are looking to join, there is a grade requirement. The cumulative average for a member’s high school math classes must be an 85.0 or above, unweighted. Members meet every first Wednesday of the month, meetings focusing on a mathematical topic. The members also are the tutors meeting at the workshops on Thursdays, with some there every week.
The club is coined a win-win situation because the members receive recognition for their academic achievement, and students who need it can get extra help. Members receive invaluable experience in developing their organizational skills further as well.
The current officers are Meghan Howard (President, Grade 12), Celia Krefter (Vice President, Grade 12), Madison Eagan (Secretary, Grade 11), and Nick Storey (Treasurer, Grade 11).
