A few weeks ago the National Honor Society (NHS), and the National English Honor Society (NEHS) chose one teacher each to honor and give their appreciation. The NHS chose Mrs. Reynolds, and the NEHS chose Mrs. Finn.
Both these teachers play a large role in the community and their students’ lives.

Both these teachers play a large role in the community and their students’ lives.
Mrs. Finn has always been an amazing teacher and person to all those around her. She currently teaches 10th and 12th grade English, as well as Senior Seminar. In the past she also taught Special Education. She has been a helpful hand in the community for a long time. She also coached softball and soccer in the past. Currently she is National English Honor Society Advisor. Through that she has done various activities including many with K.C. Coombs.
“Mrs. Finn was an obvious choice for us; she has done so much for us as a teacher mentor this year,” said Julianna Reynolds, president of the NEHS. “Not only has she provided connections for us, but she has also donated her own money to start off this organization since we are not able to hold fundraisers this year. In addition, Mrs. Finn has applied for--and successfully received--grants for us which we all appreciated. Her kindness, creative ideas, and support have shone through this difficult time for all students. Working with her as president has been an honor for me, and I know the other officers feel the same way!”
Mrs. Finn was not expecting the students to choose her. “How do I feel about being selected?" she said. "Because of Covid we were unable to have an induction ceremony last year. As a result, we had almost 50 students to induct. I had decided to just honor the students this year and wait to institute our teacher recognition. Needless to say, I was very surprised when our president, Juliana Reynolds, announced that the officers had decided they wanted to honor a teacher and had chosen me as the NEHS Teacher of the Year. It was very emotional for me. I felt humbled and honored that they chose me.”
When asked about her goals as a teacher that keep her motivated, Mrs. Finn was more than happy to speak about them.
“Students keep me motivated. Being a teacher is the best job in the world. I love what I do because of the students. I am motivated to help them succeed. I love to see the students grow and mature. I enjoy teaching seniors because they have their whole lives in front of them. They can truly become whomever they choose. It is an exciting time and I love being a part of it. My goal is to help every student reach their potential and realize their dreams.”
Mrs. Finn wasn’t the only amazing teacher honored. The general honor society chose to recognize Mrs. Reynolds. Mrs. Reynolds is known for really bringing good energy into the classroom. She has helped many students really become engaged in the topics she teaches. Her joyful energy and caring demeanor sparks light into her teaching.

"I try my best to connect with each student and this will let each student know I think they are special and capable to do whatever they want to do in life." - Mrs. Reynolds
Mrs. Reynolds teaches AP Human Geography, Current Events, Women's Studies, and Senior Seminar. Over the years she has been an advisor for many activities. This past year she had been the director of the fall play for the Blue Falcon Theater Company, an advisor with Mrs. Purdy for The Human Rights Club, as well as the Girls Spring Track Coach.
“I am extremely honored to be awarded Teacher of the Year, and I would like to thank the students of the National Honor Society for this recognition,” Mrs. Reynolds said. “I am certain that any other teacher nominated for this award is just as deserving because we have such a talented faculty and MMHS.”
Mrs. Reynolds shows care for everyone around her. She is always willing to help and work with students as well as staff. She loves teaching at Mashpee High School, to her the best part of her job is getting to work with the students here. She believes the students here are the best and they make teaching so much fun.
“As a teacher, my goal is for my students to grow leaps and bounds while being in my classroom,” she said. “So I like to have a good blend of rigor but fun! But most importantly I find building relationships and making connections with my students is one of the best parts of my job, but also the best thing I can do to help my students be successful not just in the classroom but in life. I try my best to connect with each student and this will let each student know I think they are special and capable to do whatever they want to do in life.”
Her care and encouragement always comes through in her words. She is constantly pushing students to reach their best and showing them that they are capable of doing anything they want in life.
Whether they are teaching students important life lessons or going the extra mile to make sure they are alright, both Mrs. Finn and Mrs. Reynolds are fantastic people and teachers. Like many others staff members in Mashpee Middle-High, the students are happy to have these great people teaching them and supporting them.
