The winner of the 2018 Mashpee Middle High School talent show was Morgan Peters, also known as the The ZYG.
When asked how he thought his original rap performance went, Morgan replied, “I’ve been [rapping and drumming] a lot. I started doing that over the summer. I honestly didn’t think I would win. There are a lot of talented people over there.” However, he did win and the freshman said he will perform in the talent show again.
In second place was eighth-grader Peter DeFrancesco who sang a comical Bo Burnham skit called “Repeat Stuff,” and played piano for the piece as well. In third was a five membered girl group consisting of Clara Signs, Krista Signs, Caroline Shields, Hannah Shields, and Anna Josselyn who sang and played accompanying instruments for the song “Always Be My Baby,” by Mariah Carey.

The 2018 talent show went very well aside from a single technical error with a guitar during Noah Bellevue, David McKelvey, and Peter DeFrancesco’s performance of “heavydirtysoul,” by Twenty One Pilots. Luckily Noah recovered from this issue and was able to carry on with his performance despite the stressful conditions.
The audience was supportive and interactive during the April 12 event. An especially memorable moment was during William Henley’s rendition of “Take On Me,” by A-ha. As he sang and danced the crowd was loving it and began singing along with him.
When asked if he enjoyed the attention of the crowd, Morgan Peters answered with a resounding “Yeahhhhhh!” The laughter was loud, and at one point during seventh grader Savannah Lynne’s performance of “Stay with me,” by Sam Smith, everyone turned on their phone flashlights and slowly waved along to the song.
Introducing the acts was the dynamic duo Mr. Allen and Zoe Farren. They offered comedic value to the occasion, and did a great job of keeping the audience involved by telling jokes and even stepping down from the stage to talk to them.
One difference about this years show was the inclusion of judges. Student teacher Mr. Barnes, and Ms. Vaughn were judging, along with Mrs. McCauley. They sat front row and at the end of the show they met and discussed who should win.
Nicole Childs’ performance of “Glitter in the Air,” topped off the night and at around 8:00 PM the talent show came to a successful close. Even better the event raised over $500 for the class of 2020.
In addition to Zoe and Mr. Allen, helping out at the event were the stage crew: Tianna Peters-Williams, Piper Hughes, and Micah Bellevue, as well as the lighting/sound team: Jonah Erdman and Carter Teed.
