Fall is here, which means pumpkin spice, football games, Homecoming dance, and, most obviously, Spirit Week! This year, themes were decided by the graduating Class of 2020, and categorized by grade (marking a difference from last year, in which each grade had the same theme and category).
The senior class decided on five general themes per day: Decades, Patterns, Movies, Dynamic Duos, and Blue and White, respectively. Three of these themes were further categorized by grade, with specific patterns, movies, and decades per class. And students definitely went all out!

Monday was Decades Day, kicking off Spirit Week with a blast to the past. The Class of 2023 greeted hallway visitors with a “Welcome Aboard the Titanic” banner and icons of the 1910s, while seniors blinded students with 80s-style neon outfits and leg warmers. Sophomores also delivered: their hallway was decked with images of vintage cars, red and black streamers, and “Grease” aesthetics for the 1950s!
Tuesday came quickly, serving as Patterns Day for each grade. Students passing through the senior hallway that morning were quickly greeted by loud country music and a “Saturdays are for America” flag (it was red, white, and blue themed for this class), and as they made a left into the freshman hallway were presented with zebras, and lots of duct tape (stripes!). But it wasn’t simply these two involved: juniors clashed flannels on top of flannels for Plaid Day, and the middle school decorated with dots and tie dye! The only grade no one could see spirit in was the tenth grade-after all, their pattern was camouflage.

Next was Movie day, with cinematic features ranging from Minions to the Wizard of Oz. Eighth graders welcomed students to the Yellow Brick Road enthusiastically, and freshmen declared themselves the “Class of 2023 pirates.” Many Captain Americas were spotted throughout the senior class, while the “Despicable Me”-inspired minions were...much harder to find within the eleventh grade.
The last two days of Spirit Week offered universal themes for each grade, with Dynamic Duos on Thursday, and the classic Blue and White day on Friday. As a celebration for the pep rally and following football game, Mashpee students went all out!
Spirit Week has come and gone again, the annual tradition awaiting next year’s Homecoming week. But that’s not to say it’s totally over! There is still the football game at home tonight against Abington at 7:00, and of course Homecoming dance tomorrow night, also starting at 7:00.
