Juniors, Seniors Invited to Casino Night Theme
By Maile Biehl
For the first time since 2019, Mashpee’s student government has organized a prom for the junior and senior class.
This year's prom is located at The Cape Club, a popular wedding and prom venue in Falmouth. The date is set for Saturday May 21, 2022 and starts at 5 PM. Promenade starts at 5 PM and runs until 6 PM, which leads directly into prom which runs from 6 PM to 9 PM.
For many of these students, this is their first and last prom. In previous years, the prom at Mashpee Middle-High School was open to all juniors and seniors. However, last year, due to COVID restrictions and limited availability, many students from this year's senior class were not able to attend what would have been their junior prom. Last year's senior class had a similar experience, not being able to attend their junior prom. It was important to the class of 2022, that the tradition of prom being open to juniors and seniors be started up once again.
“After two difficult years of hybrid learning, it will be wonderful for the seniors to have a prom… We are so grateful and can’t wait for the day to come!” Skyla Rimple, Mashpee’s senior class president, said.

With that being the case, the officers for the Class of 2022 worked especially hard to give the seniors an amazing prom and to give them one that would make up for what many could not have. Leading with the theme being Casino Night, games, music and a grab-and-go style dinner and soda will be provided to all students. The games for the night will include roulette, poker and other classic casino games.
After the engagement and positive reviews from the 2021 Homecoming, Michael “Mikey” Landers has been asked back as the DJ for this year's prom. Many students had amazing comments regarding the music and the overall vibe and feel of the music he provided back in the fall.
After careful consideration of the age group and what many people would be interested in, it was decided that rather than doing a banquet style dinner with everyone eating at the same time, students would be allowed to eat their dinner at whatever time they wanted to and whenever they felt like sitting down or taking a break from the rest of the festivities. On the menu for the night is French fries, chicken tenders, cheese pizza, veggies and ice cream sundaes.
Class Vice President Cheyenne Hendricks has been an important part of the planning and the organizing for this event. “I can’t wait to visually see all of our hard work pay off in one beautiful night,” she said.
