By: Caitlin Lee “Oh the Places You’ll Go” by Dr. Seuss has been the book handed to each graduating senior since the first graduating class of Mashpee in 2000. That about sums up the end of senior year in high school and trying to figure out what to do. The students all have new paths ahead of them. Perhaps the best and worst day of a senior’s life is National Decision Day. It is the day that a graduating senior decides their next steps. The day was May 1st this year, and the senior class |
of Mashpee High School have made their final decisions. Many students have chosen to attend college, some have chosen to go into the military, and some have chosen to either take a year off or work. The Class of 2016 has bright futures ahead.
Gabby Carroll is one of the many students heading to college in the fall of 2016. She will be attending UMASS Amherst as part of the BioTAP honors biology program. In this honors program she is one of 48 incoming freshmen inducted into the program. Ms. Carroll chose the school because, “I got into a very competitive program there, and it made the most sense financially”, and she is hoping to attend medical school after to become a pediatrician.
Not only does Mashpee have many students attending college in the fall, but some seniors have chosen to take the path to the military. Abigail Tremarche has been participating in physical training with the Marines since September, and truly fell in love with it. She is most proud to join the Marines because she grew up around it. “It is still rare, especially for females being in the Marines. It stands for honor, courage, and commitment. It's a family, and you are held to a very high standard that you know that you can achieve,” she said. Ms. Tremarche is hoping to go into medical school after her time in the Marines, and she stated, “If there are any juniors interested in enlisting, let me know”.
Decision Day is important to the seniors, it marks part of the end of being in high school where they’ve grown up, and it marks the beginning of a new chapter in their lives.
