Dancing for a Cure Dance Marathon, the senior project of Danielle Shay, was  was held on Saturday evening in the gymnasium of Mashpee High School. Blue and pink decorated the gym along with people of all ages dancing for a good cause. Danielle’s projects main goal was to raise money for cancer research.

The gym was scattered with people dancing, as Mashpee students volunteered to help Danielle make this a successful event. The fundraiser is a non-stop dance marathon that lasts for four hours and has competitive as well as leisure dancers. Many dance teams perform routines that have been choreographed, while others enjoy the performances and dance for fun.

Danielle said, “I think the main goal was to get more young people and just getting as many dance people on the dance floor as possible.”

The gym had many different activities along with the dancing which occupied the majority of the gym. There was a selfie booth with different costumes, a dance off at the end of the night, and raffle baskets. Many activities matched with a good cause allowed for a wide turn out that amused large groups of people.

The project is carried out by a senior each year under the mentorship of teacher Mrs. Reynolds. The projects proceeds go to Dana Farber for research in ovarian and breast cancer. Dancing for a Cure is widespread and has raised $375,000 in the past 11 years with active participation on Cape Cod.
