Mashpee High School will host the Cape Cod Mini Maker Faire on Saturday April 30 from 10am to 4 PM. The maker faire is an event for local “makers” to come show off their creations.
People will come from all over the Cape to participate in and attend the event. For the past two years the event has been hosted at Cape Cod Community College. Michael Looney, the technology department head at MHS, said he is very excited to be hosting this event and for spectators to expect it to be twice the size of previous years.
There will be many exhibitors, both professional makers, and high school students. Some exhibits will include a robotics competition and a swap-o-rama.
Kevin Blute, the woodshop teacher at MHS, has been working with his applied tech students on life-sized board games to be played at this event. He said, “I am happy to see the maker faire come to Mashpee High school. The students have been working hard on projects for the event. I am proud to have been helping them.”
One of the games featured here will be a french maze game. Miranda Davis, a senior at MHS, found the idea on Pinterest. She created the design on a computer program called Aspire and cut it out on the ShopBot. This game tests your hand-eye coordination by pulling a ball up the board which has various sized holes in it. The objective is to get all the way to the top, and then back down again, without letting the ball fall through the holes.
Mr. Looney said to look “in particular for MHS students presenting their products from the tech center.”
The Cape Cod Mini Maker Faire is three years running and keeps getting bigger and better. Miranda said, “There are many amazing things to see for all ages, and this is an event you don’t want to miss!”
