Tuesday evening at around 6:00 pm the Mashpee High School Chamber Choir, Concert Band, Mashcappellas, Strings, and Jazz Band played a two hour long concert in the school auditorium both to showcase a year of work and also to send off the musically involved seniors in the best way they know how.
The concert, organized largely by Mr. Troyanos and Ms. Keller, went smoothly, and the only real issue was a brief technical problem relating to the keyboard before the chamber choir began, luckily this lasted less than a minute. After the quick fix the choir did three pieces, the second one, “I See the Light,” from the movie Tangled, having solos from seniors Shane Barrows and Ambrosia Ward; as well as Jessie Rullo and Kylie Harrington.

Ms. Keller said on her way back to her chorus room, “I think it went pretty well, all of the students practiced really hard and showed the work they put into it,” and “I believe they were prepared.” The audience must have agreed which can be assumed by the standing ovation at the end of the final song played on the rainy Tuesday night.
Concert band also did three numbers, and Mr. T made sure to acknowledge his respective seniors: Patrick Flynn and Alexia Santos; he also told the audience about his most improved award, which was given to Sonia Hellwig. Student teacher Mr. Maguire took the auditorium stage for the third song and conducted the band for “Stairway to Heaven,” by Led Zeppelin, using the baton his students got for him. This song featured solos from Jacob Goveia on piano, Addison Wiener on guitar, and Jacob Eldridge on trumpet.
The seven-membered Mashpee a cappella group, the Mashcappellas, arrived on the stage and stood backs turned away from the audience. Tahj Bohun laid down the beat for “I Want You Back,” by The Jackson 5 and began tapping each member, which prompted them to turn around and sing their part accordingly. Shane Barrows, who is also involved with chamber choir, had the solo for this song. The group did one more song after this one, “Goodnite Sweetheart, Goodnite,” originally recorded by The Spaniels.
Mr. T took the stage once again with the strings and led four songs. As with the previously mentioned band section he took a moment to point out the seniors: Patrick Flynn, who also played with the band, and Miranda Goveia. The third song was called “That’s Him,” and it was actually composed by Flynn himself. Mr. Maguire once again conducted the students. Geovanna Pereira was bestowed with the most improved award.
The final group to play was Jazz band. Seniors of jazz include valedictorian Celia Krefter, AJ Cambra, Meghan Howard, Jaedyn Eurenius, and Tara Palermo. Their first song “Orange Colored Sky,” by Nat King Cole included vocals from Nicole Childs who is also present in chamber choir as well as the Mashcappellas. They played five songs including an encore of “Sing Sing Sing,” originally by Louis Prima.
The concert concluded at around 8:00 pm that night, and it was a meaningful way to say goodbye to the seniors who have invested so much of their time into the arts here at Mashpee High School. The seniors’ final show was certainly a successful one.
