More than half the graduating class of 2016 received scholarships at Mashpee High School’s annual scholarship night last Thursday night.
It was a night full of gratitude and excellence. Just over $110,000 dollars was earned. All scholarships were given by generous donors, some in memory of past Mashpee students and some given by local organizations.

Parents watched in pride as students sat on stage receiving their scholarship. Mashpee is the only school on Cape that has this big of an event for students receiving scholarships.
Milan Friedman receiving one scholarship says that she felt grateful for all of the money donated to the MHS students. She also expressed feelings of shock when being interviewed. She was unaware that so much money was given. She wrapped up the interview by saying that she was proud of her peers and their accomplishments. “Seeing everyone's hard work pay off was encouraging.” Milan will go off to Stonehill College in the fall and plans on majoring in sociology and communications.
Lasting about an hour and an half the night wrapped up around 8:30. Students afterward were able to meet with their donors and thank them in the cafeteria. Dessert was provided following the event. Gifts and flowers were given to students from parents as a token of their pride. The night summed up in one word is just that: pride. No matter were students go next year they will always bleed blue, remembering that this is where their journey began.
