By the end of every school year, the student council and administration allows students to propose changes for the handbook of the following year. This is something that is very important not only for the school but for the students to take on responsibility and learn how to strongly speak on their opinions. This is about speaking out and showing strength by using your words. Students are allowed to propose any change or addition they want but they must speak on all aspects of the topic...

This is something that is very important not only for the school but for the students to take on responsibility and learn how to strongly speak on their opinions. This is about speaking out and showing strength by using your words. Students are allowed to propose any change or addition they want but they must speak on all aspects of the topic...
Once the proposal has been made there is a process one must follow. The process being to have a complete write up of what the rule would look like in the handbook and all of the specific bullet points necessary regarding the topic. Also they must give a brief explanation providing some background as to why they chose to propose these changes.
Opportunities like these for students truly empower and create independent thinkers. One of the most important skills in life is to be able to support whatever claims you make because without evidence your word means nothing. Not only does it allow students to develop and learn this skill, but it teaches them about finding out what things really matter to people and compromising and collaborating to make the majority happy and willing to cooperate with the rules provided.
The administration has shown their dedication and interest in what we want and has shown us this through the thorough changes in the curriculum, handbook and school structure. They are doing this for a reason and that being to mold the students’ time at school to be peaceful and productive every day for 180 days.
There are many things that students complain about on a daily basis but how many of them actually make the effort to change it? If you don’t like something, figure out how to change it because it is likely that you are not the only one who thinks that way! When our teachers and parents went to school, the rules were the rules and there was no budging that. We are blessed to be growing up in a time where adolescent’s voices have more value and presence in the world. Take this opportunity to show you are a leader and want to better the school to make more people happy.
