Mashpee High School in collaboration with Cape Cod 5, last Wednesday hosted the 5th annual Credit for Life Fair. The goal is to teach students financial skills they can use after college.
This year students from other schools joined in with Mashpee students to experience this event. Back in the fall seniors chose a career they were interested in pursuing. With each specific career came a salary, and students had to budget their money while paying bills and other necessities.
It was a reality check for students in a real version of the game of life. Each student had to buy housing, clothing, insurance, a car, groceries, and there personal necessities such as haircuts and entertainment. Brittany Martini and Sara MacRae, seniors at Mashpee, organized the event for their senior project.
Brittany said, “I think it went well. We had people from Archbishop [Williams] school and they were very impressed. One of the Credit for Life women said that this was the best one she’s ever seen.”
Senior Sam Fraser said, “It was not as shocking as I expected. I thought I was going to go broke but I didn’t. Some things were unrealistic, though.”
