High school is considered by many to be one of the best times of our young lives— hanging out with friends, working on finding your passions, and deciding just what you want to do with your life.
As seniors, we’ve spent the past three years cramming for tests, celebrating victories, and counting down the days till our graduation; through all of this, we do have the tough times where we need a friend or parent to give us some much-needed advice. So that’s what we’re here to do for you today! Speaking with some of the Class of 2016, here is some of the advice they shared for the upcoming freshman and next year’s seniors:

As seniors, we’ve spent the past three years cramming for tests, celebrating victories, and counting down the days till our graduation; through all of this, we do have the tough times where we need a friend or parent to give us some much-needed advice. So that’s what we’re here to do for you today! Speaking with some of the Class of 2016, here is some of the advice they shared for the upcoming freshman and next year’s seniors:
“Juniors, plan ahead! Make sure that you visit a lot of colleges because you can’t look at a college and think that it’s a good fit— you actually have to go and visit. Also, don’t treat senior year like a joke— take some good classes that challenge you. Don’t slack off either. Freshman: Get out and participate! Go to the shows and the games! Stand up for what you believe in and join the clubs!” -Brenda Price
“Go down to the tech wing and get involved—take classes with Mr. Looney and Mr. Nocella and opportunities will come around.” -Julien Terry
“Realize the time you have is so limited and you only have so much time in a day.” -Caroline Colomey
“Be an individual and don’t listen to what other kids say— and join art club! Also, pass go and collect $200.” -Caitlin Rogers
“Invent yourself and don’t follow the crowd. Be yourself! Embrace who you are.” -Maddie Clifford
“Just don’t be rude.” -Owen Taylor Barrows
“Try and consider a senior project that you’ll actually care about in the long run.” -Robert Viera
“Don’t rely solely on digital copies—have a hard copy of everything.” -Abby Tremarche
“Freshman, don’t get flustered if you’re trying to find yourself and can’t figure it out yet—you have time. Next year’s seniors, don’t take any of your time for granted; do meaningful, thoughtful things.” -Milan Friedman
“Bring your own lunch.” Travis LeBlanc
If I were to give an upcoming freshman my advice, I would tell them to join some clubs to make friends that share similar interests. I would also suggest taking a look at the new classes they can sign up for— of you see something that sounds interesting, give it a shot! You can always switch it for a different class if you don’t like it. For next year’s seniors—if you know what you want to do for the rest of your life, look for colleges that offer that major. If you find a school that you really like and they offer your major, you’re all set! Sure, your parents or teachers will tell you to find a school where you’re comfortable and it doesn’t feel like school, but it won’t be fun when you’re at a school where you don’t know what to do in this comfort.
For the next four years, all of you freshman will have your ups and downs—everyone does! Just know that it’s not the end of the world and you will make it to the end of the year. Soon-to-be seniors, take a chill pill every once in awhile. You do have enough time to juggle your final project or internships with work and relationships! The class of 2016 believes in all of you and we’re so excited to see all of the things you’ll do.
